Signs Of Infertility

For couples trying to have a child, ignoring the signs of infertility can make it more difficult for them to become pregnant. Here are some of the signs of infertility that you need to be aware of

Infertility is defined as the incapacity to produce offspring. Of course there are many stipulations to the term infertility and this must not be confused with sterility. There are some signs of infertility that you can watch out for if you suspect you are infertile. These signs alone do not specifically suggest that you are infertile if you have them; instead you should be guided to consult an experienced medical practitioner if you suspect you have some signs of infertility.

Signs of Infertility in Women

Among the many varied possible signs of infertility, the most common for women is an irregular menstrual cycle. Having an irregular menstrual cycle may be one of the signs of infertility but it could also point to a lot of things and does not necessarily mean that you are infertile.

Other signs of infertility can be a weight problem. Some women who are too thin and bordering on emaciation can have a problem conceiving because they lack the proper nutrients. Others on the other hand have no problem conceiving in spite of their thinness. Obesity can also be one of the signs of infertility. People who are obese sometimes suffer from hormonal problems, which in turn can affect their reproductive system.

Substance and alcohol abuse can also be signs of infertility. Better to call these causes of infertility instead of signs of infertility because they can make a person unable to conceive. People who frequently use illegal drugs and other substances that can harm the body are likely candidates of being unable to produce children. These substances and alcohol abuse can affect the way your body works and may discourage the proper growth and conception of fetuses.

Signs of Infertility in Men

Some of the signs of infertility in men and women are similar. These include weight problems like obesity and substance abuse. These signs of infertility affect men in the same way that they affect women. They cause the body to malfunction in such a way that it cannot host a fetus or produce the right amount or form of sperm to conceive. Anatomic or physical problems may also be signs of infertility in men. Undescended testicles can prove to be a factor to infertility. Wearing tight underwear or jeans can also affect the ability of men to produce viable sperm for conception. Exposure of their scrotum and gonads to heat can also affect their ability to produce children.

Just because you have these signs does not necessarily mean that you are infertile.  It is always best to consult a specialist if you have difficulty conceiving for more than a year.

Obesity And Infertility
Recent studies have linked obesity and infertility. Australian researchers studied 3,500 women who were very obese and found that they were half as likely to conceive when compared to women of normal weight.

Propecia and Infertility
Is there a connection between Propecia and infertility? Many men taking Propecia and who are attempting to conceive achild with their wife, are concerned that Propecia will affect their sperm.
